MasterCard uses four-digit numbers for their chargeback reason codes, each beginning with 48 as the first two digits. Some acquirers, processors or PSPs may just provide the last two digits of the reason code in their data reporting, as that is all that is needed to distinguish between the reason codes and recognize the chargeback description.
MasterCard eliminated some reason codes while condensing or combining others in 2016. There are now 19 different reason codes and while MasterCard does not group or categorize these in a way like Visa disputes, we have organized these into four similar groups below.

Professionals certified by as eCommerce Fraud Agents have a strong understanding of how payment processing works for eCommerce, methods for validating and establishing trust in an identity in the CNP channel, and how to perform manual order risk reviews. More than 85 percent of eCommerce Fraud Agents worked for an eCommerce or multi-channel merchant at the time of certification. Many merchants have all new manual review staff hires, both permanent and seasonal, complete this certification. Fraud vendors, payment service providers and others who help merchant clients manage CNP fraud are candidates to take this certification as well.
eCommerce Operations Specialist

This certification for those who are or seek to become department heads, managers, directors or senior team members that are involved with operational processes for payment and risk management. Certified eCommerce Operations Specialists may be involved with manual order risk reviews, chargeback management and re-presentment, or both. They understand the relation of transaction screening and order approval management with chargeback rates and fraud, and usually hold a position of leadership or influence in these areas of operational and risk management.

This Specialist certification is focused on post-transaction management from payment, recovery and risk perspectives, the primary types of professionals who earn the eCommerce Chargeback Specialist Certification are those that perform or manage operational post-transaction processes like chargeback reconciliation, analytics and disputes. The majority of eCommerce Chargeback Specialists today fill such responsibilities for merchants who manage these tasks in-house, although many payment service providers and fraud solution vendors that offer post-transaction tools or managed services enroll in this certification as well.
